Most link building fails because it starts with “What’s in it for me?”
Here are 5 ways to rethink options to attract links, not beg for them.
- Instead of only caring about what’s in it for you, start with “What can I give?”
Things to give are resource that give clarity, provide a template, or save time. - In my SEO book Outrank, one of my favorite angles is simple… Answer the questions people in your niche are already asking. When you solve a problem in front of existing demand, your content then so valuable people want to share it (link to it).
For example, if you sell payroll software most would write about why their payroll software is the best, features, boring stuff. Instead, write about payroll mistakes that trigger IRS letters (and how to fix them).
- Then take that article to where the conversations already exist, like communities, forums, groups, Skool.
- Links are a byproduct of credibility.
Show up to help, not to drop a link and vanish. If you consistently solve real problems in public, people reference you. - Be patient. Credibility needs time to compound.
Be the helpful expert in the room long enough to build a reputation, not to be forgettable, and links show up without you chasing them.
